It’s been five long years since the final Harry Potter movie, Deathly Hallows Part 2, hit theaters, but this year fans can experience a new part of this magical universe. Warner Bros. will release Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on November 16, with Harry Potter director David Yates returning to the helm, and J.K. Rowling making her screenwriting debut. This movie will kick off a new trilogy, and earlier today, director David Yates revealed new details about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2.

David Yates revealed earlier this month that J.K. Rowling had already finished the script for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2, and that she already has “ideas” for the third movie. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, David Yates teases that the story goes in a whole new direction. Here’s what he had to say below.
“We’ve seen the script for Part 2, for the second movie, which takes the story in a whole new direction – as you should, you don’t want to repeat yourself. The second movie introduces new characters as she builds this part of the Harry Potter universe further. It’s a very interesting development from where we start out. The work is pouring out of her.”

Warner Bros. confirmed that Fantastic Beasts will be a trilogy way back in October 2014, with the studio setting tentative release dates in 2018 and 2020 for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3. Fantastic Beasts stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a textbook used at Hogwarts by Harry Potter and his classmates. The cast of this movie prequel also includes Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Jenn Murray, Colin Farrell, Carmen Ejogo, Jon Voight and Gemma Chan.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be part of Warner Bros.’ massive Hall H Comic-Con panel on Saturday, July 23 at 11:30 AM, s stay tuned for more details on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and its upcoming sequel.
